How to Analyze a Name with Numerology
Numerology is an occult method of divination that far older than the practice of astrology or tarot cards. People who use numerology seek to understand people, places, and events by analyzing numbers associated with those people, places, and events.
Though numerology is a pseudoscience akin astrology and palm reading, many people put faith in numerical patterns--just as they might put faith in the alignment of planets or creases on the palm.
You can use numerology to divine the meaning of a name or date using the numerology calculator on the left, or by following the steps outlined below.
First, assign digits to each letter of the Latin alphabet as follows:
Next, write the name you wish to analyze and write the corresponding numbers under each letter. Spaces, dashes, and apostrophes are not counted to make a sequence of digits. For example, the name "Susan Jones" corresponds to the sequence 13115 16551.
Add the all of the digits in the sequence. For example, if we add the digits for Susan Jones, we get 1+3+1+1+5+1+6+5+5+1 = 29. Then, add the digits of the number you just found. For example, 2+9 = 11. Keep adding the digits of each new number until you arrive at a single digit number, aka the name number. For example, 1+1 = 2, and so we stop here. (Alternatively, you can divide the first number by 9 and take the remainder. If the remainder is 0, call it 9. For example, 29/9 has a remainder of 2. You will get the same result no matter which method you use.)
Use a numerology book or chart to divine personality traits based on a person's name number. There is no standard set of interpretations, but the following list shows many traits commonly associated with the number 1 through 9.
1: leader, stubbornness, beauty
2: peaceful, analytical, cold
3: creative, inconsistent, untactful
4: creative, fussy, sociable
5: novelty, loyalty, intelligence
6: caretaker, quick, clever
7: lucky, deceptive, stubborn
8: wealthy, loving, gullible
9: intelligent, generous, insightful
Notice that the letters assigned to 5 spell "new" and the letters assigned to 6 spell "fox." The number 9 is considered especially auspicious. You can also perform numerological analysis on dates by adding either the numbers in the date, or adding both the letters and numbers. For example, June 5th can be analyzed by replacing "June" with 6 (because it is the 6th month), or by replacing "June" with 1+3+5+5 = 14.
